Kevin Wills and Kyle Rader each have 40+ plus years in the construction and home renovation industry. Though Kevin does well through word of mouth and excellent results, he approached me inquiring about a website for his business so that people would be able to find him online.

There was little to no branding developed for Kevin Wills LLC, which presents a challenge in building a website - a brand identity needs to be established before it can properly be expressed visually through a website.

Kevin showed me a logo that he was thinking about and sent it to me. I recreated the logo from the ground up taking out all of the elements that didn’t work well and reinforcing the elements that did.

After getting the logo in a good place, a font set needed to be chosen, part of which had already been selected for the logo.

The font needed to be strong and sturdy like a house, but more importantly, easy to read in any application whether digital or print, big or small.

Once the logo and font had been chosen, I could choose a secondary font for the website and develop a color palate.

Kevin mentioned that he was thinking that red would be a good color, because it stands out, so I chose a red that I thought was vibrant, but not too deep - a tone that feels modern, like a fresh coat of paint.

It turns out that Kevin happened to be wearing a red shirt that day, which made for the perfect headshot for the website ‘about’ section.

I kept the color palate simple and bold, with black, white and red.

One of the biggest challenges in building a website is gathering or creating visual elements that properly exemplify a business. Oftentimes stock photos will be used out of convenience, but I like to provide a more authentic representation of a client’s work. Fortunately, I am also a photographer and videographer and was able to meet Kevin at a jobsite that was a perfect (and real) example of his work.

I was able to take photos of the work in progress as well as a headshot of Kevin himself.

I even flew my drone around and put together a few clips for the header of Kevin’s website.

I recorded a conversation with Kevin where I asked him various questions about his business. This provided me with all of the information that is now within the text of the website. Kevin’s crew also provided me with a slew of photos from their work, which I edited and optimized for a quick-loading website.

This is a good example of a turn-key website production and I would be happy to find a solution for your needs as well if you want a website, but don’t have a lot of business identity yet established. We can build it together or you can give me free reign to make you something pretty and cool.
